Visitors are invited to spit at the framed poster of the Carlsbad Caverns, a place which the artist has never been to, and to listen. When a substantial amount has accumulated, dripping saliva softly echoes through the gallery space, imitating the anticipated sounds of a cave with the hope of bringing one into the image and the image into one’s physical space.
On another level, the invitation to interact in a very specific way already pulls the viewer into a negotiation between image and the space of action.
